How much does a China tour cost?

Honest answer: it's quoted per trip, because the price is mostly arithmetic about your trip. Here's the arithmetic, so a quote never feels like a number from a hat.

The headline sights are the fixed costs — guides, entrance tickets and trains. Hotels and pacing are where your budget flexes.

Why the tour pages show a "from" price, not a final one

The leading China specialists quote tours per inquiry for the same reason: the same 10-day route costs meaningfully different amounts in February vs. Golden Week, for 2 people vs. 6, in comfortable hotels vs. suites. So each tour page carries a "from" price on the standard basis — per person, based on 2 sharing, 4-star hotels, private guide & driver, entrance fees and intercity trains, with international flights not included — and your exact trip is then priced as one itemised figure for your actual dates, within 24 hours of asking.

What drives the price

  • Group size. The guide, car and driver cost the same for 2 or 6 people — so per-person prices drop fast as groups grow. Solo and couple travel is the premium case.
  • Private vs. group. A private trip prices the guide, car and driver to your group alone. Joining a small-group departure shares those fixed costs across everyone travelling — usually the biggest single saving available, in exchange for a fixed route and set dates.
  • Hotel tier. The single biggest lever. Comfortable 4-star is our standard basis; boutique and 5-star tiers are quoted on request.
  • Season. Peak weeks (late April–May, late September–October, public holidays) price hotels and flights up; winter (outside holidays) is the value season.
  • Route. More intercity legs = more trains and flights. The 8-Day Golden Triangle is the most economical full route; the 14-Day Grand Tour spreads fixed costs over more days.
  • What's bundled. Our quotes include transport with a driver (your own car on a private trip), English-speaking guide, hotels, intercity transport in the itinerary, listed entrance fees and listed meals. International flights, visa and insurance stay outside — compare any quote on that basis.

Food is the flexible line in the budget: a night-market dinner or hotpot with the locals costs a fraction of a hotel night — and is usually the meal people remember.

Market context

For orientation only: independent price round-ups of the wider market put multi-day China tours broadly in the range of group tours from about US$1,500–3,500 per person (land-only) and private equivalents higher, with an average across 1,000+ listed China tours of roughly US$280 per day (sources: mychina.guide and budgetyourtrip.com round-ups, October 2026). Your quote from the operating agency is the only number that counts for your trip — and it's itemised, so you can see where every part goes.

How payment works

Once you're happy with the itinerary, a deposit secures guides, hotels and train tickets; the balance is due before departure. The exact methods and schedule are confirmed in writing with your quote — no payment is ever taken over chat without a formal booking confirmation. No shopping stops and no commission detours are built into any itinerary: that's a cost you don't pay with your time.
